Pritzker Delt Another Political Loss

This is just the latest in a long string of political losses for Pritzker, as it has become increasing clear the state’s highest office holder is indeed politically weak.

Last night the Democratic Party of Illinois held a meeting to select their new Chairman and the results were another political loss for Governor Pritzker. The party’s state central committee elected Congresswoman Robin Kelly as the party’s next Chairman over Governor Pritzker’s hand-picked candidate, Chicago alderman Michelle Harris

WCIA: “Though Pritzker congratulated Kelly for her win on Twitter, her win was a blow to his efforts to assert more influence over the party as its largest financier.”

Chicago Tribune: “Harris’ loss was a blow to first-term Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who sought to consolidate power in the party with Madigan leaving the political scene.”

WTTW: “Kelly’s narrow victory with 52% of the vote was a defeat for Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who backed Ald. Michelle Harris (8th Ward)…”

This is just the latest in a long string of political losses for Governor Pritzker, as it has become increasing clear the state’s highest office holder is indeed politically weak.

Last November, Pritzker’s tax hike amendment was overwhelmingly defeated by Illinois voters. Pritzker attempted to throw his weight around when former Senate President Cullerton resigned, endorsing Senator Lightford. Lightford lost to now Senate President Don Harmon. And finally, during January’s lame duck session, Pritzker attempted to muscle through legislation that would have taken federal tax credits away from Illinois small businesses. That legislation was defeated.
