Pritzker & Democrats’ Congressional Map Earns an “F” rating

Governor Pritzker and his Democratic allies look to have out done themselves in creating a more partisan and gerrymandered map than Mike Madigan did 10 years ago.

October 19, 2021

In keeping with their practice of Friday map dumps, Governor Pritzker and Springfield Democrats unveiled their partisan gerrymandered congressional map. Upon unveiling, the maps made headlines across Illinois and the nation, as objectively gerrymandered. It is clear that Pritzker and the Democrats drew the map for one purpose: protect and expand Democratic control in Illinois and Washington, all at the expense of providing fair representation to Illinois families.

Illinois Democrats have a long history of earning national headlines for their partisan gerrymandered congressional maps. In 2011, Illinois passed a congressional map that was nationally acknowledged as politically aggressive as Illinois Democrats aimed to “either eliminate or drastically alter districts represented by current GOP Members”. Out of half a dozen states undergoing remaps under Democratic control in 2011, Illinois’ maps were believed to result in “no state going forward has the potential to inflict a similarly devastating map on the GOP.” Fast forward to today, Governor Pritzker and his Democratic allies look to have out done themselves in creating a more partisan and gerrymandered map than Mike Madigan did 10 years ago.
