Pritzker & Lightfoot Silent on Historic Violent Crime Crisis

Through their silence, Governor Pritzker and Mayor Lightfoot are showing that protecting the lives of the people of Illinois are not a priority.

September 7, 2021

Illinois is experiencing historic violent crime rates, with Chicago on a trajectory to have the highest homicide tally in a quarter century at summer’s end. Over the Labor Day weekend, Chicago’s violence received national headlines with six people killed, including a 4-year old, and 66 others were wounded. Despite this violent crime crisis in Chicago and throughout Illinois, Governor Pritzker and Mayor Lightfoot haven’t taken any action to curb the violence. Instead, Governor Pritzker continues his silence and joins Mayor Lightfoot in the approach of burying their heads in the sand.

Governor Pritzker and Mayor Lightfoot’s refusal to lead and address this crisis is beyond unacceptable and puts Illinois families in danger as violent crimes continue to plague the state.
