Pritzker on losing streak with party leadership and tax battles

It has become increasing clear the state’s highest office holder is indeed politically weak.

March 8, 2021

Governor Pritzker has been compiling an impressive pile of political losses as he attempts to muscle through tax hikes and hand-picked candidates only to be rejected by voters, Democratic legislators, and the Democratic Party.

Pritzker’s signature tax hike amendment was overwhelmingly defeated by Illinois voters in November. Pritzker’s hand-picked replacement for former Senate President Cullerton’s position was defeated. During January’s lame duck session, Pritzker attempted to muscle through legislation that would have taken federal tax credits away from Illinois small businesses. That legislation was defeated. And finally, last week, the Democratic party rejected his hand-picked candidate for Party Chairman.

It has become increasing clear the state’s highest office holder is indeed politically weak.
