Pritzker Reneges Pledge to People of Illinois to Support a Fair Map

Pritzker will side with Democrats in Springfield over the people of Illinois to create a partisan map that will continue the practice of politicians picking their constituents to further their careers and self-interests.

April 27, 2021

After months of cagey statements surrounding the redistricting process, Governor Pritzker made it clear today that he is reneging on his 2018 pledge to veto a partisan legislative map. Instead, Pritzker will side with Democrats in Springfield, who also are breaking pledges to hand-over the map making process to an independent commission, to create a partisan map that will continue the practice of politicians picking their constituents to further their careers and self-interests.

Time and time again Governor Pritzker has had the opportunity to stand by the people of Illinois – whether it be small business owners, unemployed workers, or our veterans. And yet when given those chances, he failed to rise to the challenge. It’s fair for Illinoisans to now expect simply more of the same from Governor Pritzker, who is more interested in protecting himself and his political interests.
